Colored Skirt & Panther Eyes

Zara shirt & shoes, unknown skirt

These pictures were take really really late at night (well more like timer-taken), when I came back from the birthday reunion to which I wore this outfit (obviously right? jeje)
Anyway, I've worn this shirt before, with a similar look. I think the skirt at the waist & baggy shirt is becoming my staple uniform for going out. Do you have that look that you always go to?
The skirt I got at a random department store on sale, wuut wuut, consumer satisfaction all the way, especially when you don't expect to really find anything nice. Does this ever happen to you?

Back to blogging after such a long time! Yay!!!!
Next post? Trip! (and a very very meaningful trip...)

New In: Bimba & Lola Bag!

When I went to Bimba & Lola, I really wasn't looking to buy anything - obviously that didn't happen -

I must give credit to the sales lady that brought out every bag that was in the store & in storage, until we found the perfect one*. It has a long strap & a short strap, the size is perfect because it fits my laptop but it's still not super large, the color goes with everything & the material is also slightly weatherproof, so I don't have to take extreme care of it...

I also ended up buying a make up bag for my sister - she found a better use of it though since it's now her pencil case

*I'm very particular about costumer service - it's something I pay very close attention to... do you?

Men Shirts & Pink Pants

Men Lacoste shirt, Zara pants

My dad has great taste is shirts, of which many end up in my closet... like this one :) I usually tend to gravitate to men shirts (I've worn a few in the blog before), I buy many and others I "borrow forever" from my dad, I like their bagginess & patterns, plus they're perfect for that "I-have-nothing-to-wear" moment.
This one even has a really nice texture where the pink lines are. To finish the look I added my favorite pink jeans. Though I'm no professional stylist, if you're wearing a big/large shirt, balance out the look with straight/skinny pants...

Have a greeeat week ;)

New in: Skirts!

Skirts all Zara

Since I've discovered skirts in everyday wear (I used to only wear them "at night"), I've become slightly obsessed with them, building a small collection.

These three were my last Zara sales purchases, so they were marked down really really low (ahh consumer satisfaction!)

Another girl actually found the black & white one from the right, luckily she put it back on the rack and before she changed her mind I got it (score!). The middle lace one, I had seen previously but I couldn't decide whether to buy it or not, when I went back and it was the only one left, I knew it was for moi. Unfortunately the white one isn't very visible, just realized this when seeing the picture in my computer, however the fabric is very heavy and detailed, so it'll probably be the hardest to match. Outfit with one of these coming soon ; )

Have a great week!

Flowers & Linen Pants

Pictures taken at about 5:30 am - can you tell from my sleepy face? Or the darkness in the background? Though I'm a morning person, when you're up before the sun...

About the outfit, there's something about wide-legged pants & heels that makes you feel ultra feminine, confident & powerful right? Or is it just me? 'Cause I was power-walking all over the house with my pants & shoes. These pants are a little treasure from Italy, they're 100 % linen (according to the tag) and they're flowy and have so much movement, and it doesn't matter if they get wrinkled because it's part of their charm. The shirt (on trend huh?) is about 2 yrs old from Zara, and I take care of it like a precious jewel, it's definitely one of my favorites.

What are some of your favorite clothes?

Pinterest

So I opened a Pinterest account, awhile ago (thought I'm usually really late into all the social media hype), but I hadn't really used it until today -  and it's addictive!! It's so cool to have one space where you can put all the things that interest you, without having a million folders on your computer hehe.

So you can follow here, and I'd really like to know if you're on Pinterst as well! Let me know!

Jazz Shoes

Jonathan Z shirt, Zara pants/leggings (au/w 11), zara flats

Again I pull out my semi-pants from Zara, that are so comfortable and match with practically everything. This time I used a shirt I've shown before (here) and my jazz shoes. I love love love these shoes! They're so comfortable and for me, they wouldn't be my usual choice in style. However, they have to be one of my best choices! (Plus, I get lots of compliments)
Hence, the pics, yup got slightly carried away in my dance moves.

Have you ever bought something you're not very sure about, but end up really liking it afterwards?

21 days to positivity

So I recently discovered TED Talks, and it's like a whole new world! So many interesting presentations, opinions about basically any topic. A friend posted this one on FB and I think it's great. I'm a true believer in positive thinking and positive energy, and that when you think that things couldn't be worse (work, school, friends, etc) you need to start by changing your mindset. Here, he talks about changing the happiness equation in 21 days... what do you think? Willing to give it a try?

What to wear: Bogotá

Zara dress & tights, Mango boots (au/w 11), Moroccan scarf

Remember a long long time ago I went to Bogotá? Well I rescued some outfit pics from one day. In Bogotá the weather is always cold and rainy, so you can imagine my excitement at being able to wear "winter" clothes.

These boots are of such pretty leather, very soft, and if it weren't for the melting heat here I would wear them more. The dress has pleats at the bottom, which can't be seen, but they give it a girly and retro vibe. But the key element has to be my leopard tights, which I bought on a whim and I'd never worn before (they were in my closet for months I think), I find the dress and the boots tone the tights down, without making them look terrible or of bad taste. Finally, this scarf is a little treasure, handmade (with a loom of course) in Morocco, a very special gift.

My Waldorf Salad

So now I'm "obsessed" with cooking - that is: I can't stop watching the Food Network and every other cooking show in different channels.

It's really cool to try new flavors and experiment in the kitchen. They only problem: having to wash so many pots and pans and spoons and forks. However, I'm trying to be more creative with what I cook, though I can rival my sister. She's amazing.

This salad, I didn't see it on TV, actually a friend ordered one during lunch one afternoon and thought, hmmm I can totally make that. So a few days later, after buying the ingredients, I did! And it was delicious, the crunchiness of the celery and the sweetness of the raisins...  Plus the colors are so pretty!

Ingredients:
Raisins, 2 green apples, 4 celery sticks and lettuce. You can also add walnuts!

Instructions:
Chop the celery, break (don't cut) the lettuce into small pieces, then cut the apples. Mix everything and add as many raisins as you want, the walnuts and a little pepper. Serve and eat right away otherwise the apple will start to turn brown. (To prevent this you can add lemon to the apples).
Makes three servings.

Dressing:
I think there's a specific dressing for this salad with mayonnaise, but I opted for a honey mustard one. Just mix some a tablespoon of honey with a teaspoon of mustard.

You're overdressed

Zara skirt (a/w11), Steve Madden heels

Outfit for a birthday reunion. So I arrive and say hellos to people, and suddenly a guy stops me and says, "you're making all of us look bad, look at me I'm just wearing jeans, next time you should tell us what you're going to wear."

I couldn't help but laugh, I knew he was joking, but I thought it was interesting to touch upon that concept of being overdressed or underdressed. I do think about the place I'm going to, and try to dress accordingly, other times I dress according to an outfit I already have on my mind, oohh I'm going to wear that skirt I just bought, or the shirt I haven't worn in a long time. Sometimes I don't "hit the mark" usually being slightly "overdressed."  But do you always have to blend in? Is it OK to wear an outfit that you like and feel comfortable with, but to others you look overdressed? Such was the case for this outfit, I totally liked it, and definitely didn't think I was too dressed up, plus I was so excited to wear my new skirt I got on sale (yay!), the only one left, it's slightly big, but nothing a belt can't fix. What if the dressing average is low, so comparatively you look overdressed? (Sorry math geek here).

I read in a magazine, Harper's Bazaar actually, while waiting for the doctor, that one sign of elegance is understatement (quoting Claudia Schiffer), but is understatement synonymous of being underdressed? Is it better to be overdressed or underdressed? Ahh the dilemmas of fashion & style hehe.

Carolina Herrera & White Shirts

This article about the famous signature white shirts Carolina Herrera always wears is very interesting. It's so cool to find that one statement piece that defines your style, that makes you feel confident and that you know fits perfectly. Have you found that signature look?

Tie-Dye & Grey

Zara pants (a/w 11), Converse, Bershka shirt

This started out as as "I don't have anything to wear" moment. I just wanted to wear something comfortable, so this means starting the outfit with my Converse. Then I chose these leggings/ pants that I got in Zara and are sooo comfortable. I must add that it really confuses me not knowing where these "pants" fall on the leggings/pants spectrum because they have a zipper and pockets, and are thicker than leggings... I'm rambling but they do confuse me. Finally, this tie-dye shirt I've had for many many years, and the belt for a "dressier" look. The result, I think, is one of my favorites.

Festivals

After a long hiatus, of being totally uninspired and overwhelmed by so many things, I decided to blog once more... I keep complaining I don't have time to blog, but that's not true, I just wasn't feeling like it... In March 2011 my sister and I officially started the blog, and so to decide to blog again, exactly one year after (time flies!!) is pretty significant...it's been such an interesting year, and 2012 will be even better!

Seeing that I haven't written in the longest time, I'm starting with a writing overload hehe...

So I’d never been to music festivals before, until recently. Three weeks and I’ve already been to two, a jazz one and a “rock” one with a green/ eco-friendly theme.

Anywho the first time I went, I noticed that there is a clear “music festival aesthetic.” I thought that was just the case of festivals in the States or Europe, but it’s present in South America as well, which I found most interesting. So, moi, I went with “ripped jeans” – you know the ones that you buy strategically ripped already, a white shirt and converse. The objective: to be comfortable for this, in case I have to run, it’s kind of my I’m prepared for the worst outfit… first festival, big crowds, anything crazy can happen – yup I’m slightly paranoid.

Festival Attire!

Well,

Afterwards, I told my sister I’d been to the festival, very excited because you know I’m being all musically cool and the second thing she asked was, what did you wear? (The first, how was it?)
I answered, and she said, “noo noo, that’s not for a festival.” So, obviously I’m out of the festival-attire loop here.

Two weeks later, when I’m going to the second festival, she asks, “What are you going to wear? Remember to look good.”

To be honest I really don’t have this “festival attire-look” down yet. I think there are people that can totally pull off the look, because it’s part of who they are. Others can make a rough attempt at looking “festival cool.” However, this whole festival outfit aesthetic was very interesting to observe - the second time around I paid careful attention and this is my “what to wear to a music festival and look cool” list:

1)      Jean shorts (ripped if possible) – if they’re high waisted and vintage even better.
2)      Converse (yaaay for me! Got this one right), no converse? Keds will do.
3)      Roman sandals (though if it’s in grass I don’t know how this could be a good idea – and lots of feet – ouch what if you get stepped on? But just putting it here because I saw many girls with them.)
4)      “Hipster” wide rimmed glasses – even if you don’t need them. I actually saw a group of friends passing the glasses around. Seriously? Seriously.
5)      Very flowy & flowery dresses and shirts.
6)      Midriff  80´s style shirts, very wide & over-sized.
7)      Bat-like shirts.
8)      Open back shirts – definitely a favorite.
9)      Bra showing – good. Will be evident through those 80´s shirts that fall nonchalantly from one shoulder.
10)   Long strap vintage bags that you can conveniently put across your body.
11)   Panama hats.
12)   Skirts.
13)   White always looks good.
14)   Jewelry: long necklaces, bracelets.
15)   Sunglasses.

So there you have a it, a mix of these pieces and you’re festival ready. I even made my first Polyvore to go with it : D. But actually, this is more like a "note to self” post so that the third time I go to a festival, it'll be the charm hehe.

This video is really nice!

2) Get away from the computer
3) Break the rules

Peruvian Cuisine

Crab Causa: Small smashed yellow potatoes with crab filling.
(The original causa is filled with tuna, ají, mayonnaise & avocado)

Fried wontons filled with meat & crab (clearly in separate wontons ;) )

Delicious spicy sushi - new on the menu - not very Peruvian I know but still very good

Three types of ceviche. The basis for traditional ceviche is fish marinated in lemon, with purple onions (like the one in the middle). People often add other sea food (octopus, calamari), and it can be seasoned with other ingredients. For example the yellow one, has a special tipe of ají (or Peruvian chili), that gives it its color and taste.

Zara jacket, Nine West booties, Scarf from a local Indian store, random leggings & tank top

I think I've mentioned before that my sister and I are wannabe foodies!! Also, I must add that apart from Venezuelan cuisine, my favorite is Peruvian. Anywho, we went for a family dinner to my favorite restaurant.  This restaurant has a modern take on Peruvian cuisine (nouvelle couisine) while still making traditional dishes with great flavor. What the chef does is use different ingredients for traditional dishes (for example the crab causa), the ceviches - all styles - are absolutely delicious! I was so excited when we agreed on my favorite restaurant! Hope you like the food pics.
For my outfit I decided to wear my new leggings, with a black & beige combination. This printed scarf is definitely a favorite. With leggings I like wearing loose shirts/jackets that fall at the hips or lower in order to create a lean visual effect.

And I forgot the camera

Seriously, these things only happen to  - moi ! My brain doesn't even warn me!

So I get all dressed up to go to lunch with my family to a really good Italian restaurant to finally celebrate my birthday, I take my time getting ready and think:

"Oh, we're going to a nice place so we can probably take some pictures for the blog." (Does this happen to you, suddenly you start thinking/ analyzing locations as potential outfit photo backgrounds?)

So anyway, after about an hour of getting dressed and wandering around the house we're ready to leave - camera safely in my purse. We get to the restaurant and decide to take some pictures before sundown, but right when my sister says, "let's go take the pictures" something in my brain just clicked and I answered (gasp!) "oooohhh I forgot the memory stick," my sister just shakes her head from side to side...
What's up with that? I knew I didn't have the memory stick but I realized it two seconds before using the camera... grrr my sis had to take the pics with my phone...
Jonathan Z jumpsuit, Steve Madden sandals

Btw, shhhh, but this is an EORD (exact outfit repetition day) (I'm so witty making acronyms up), something a lazy fashion girl like me always does! When I like the outfit or I already have one figured out that just works or I'm too lazy have no time, I repeat outfits completely, changing perhaps the purse, shoes or jewelry. Do you do this? I actually wore this same outfit about two weeks before for a dinner, but seriously, the bottom and top figured out haha, too easy.

Thanks for visiting ; )

Trip!

I'm such a terrible blogger, so much for my new years resolution huh? Anywhooo as I tweeted earlier, for three days I'm going to a "retreat" so hopefully I'll be back with a review of the place, some outfit posts and  a post on what to pack for short trips (I've been doing my suitcase for the last two hours and I'm still not done) this is just my break time hehe.

So well, hope everyone's had a great week so far!

Thanks for stopping by :)

Some DIY

I found this at a store and I immediately thought it would be a great way to arrange my jewelry. Also, it's so cute, like a mini coat hanger.
Because the wood was just too "bare" I decided to change it up a bit. I bought some gold spray paint, and though I know nothing about them, I thought that a 2-in-1 sounded good enough.

Then spray all over in a organized manner ;)
Note! The spray paint seriously sprays everywhere, even though I covered the area with newspaper, I found gold specks all over my floor. Therefore, if I were to do it again I would choose another painting method or do it an open space.

Then, let dry, for a looong time.
Afterwards I got all my bracelets and arranged them like this:

I even organized them according to type, my wooden & indian ones, my DIYs, "fancier" ones...

What do think?

New Year!

Last outfit of 2011 for new years dinner.

I found this dress at a random department store, and I really like the three color division and the bow at the back.

Picture of the restaurant where we had our nice dinner.

I’m such a wannabe foodie – seriously  - so in honor of that I ordered quail for my last meal of the year, it was actually pretty good, the asparagus was also nice.

Fireworks! At 12 o’clock fireworks were heard all over the city and the view was spectacular. They usually last for about 30 min, and it’s actually a family event to light fireworks. What is it about fireworks that makes them so awesome? Seriously, they’re just so cool to watch.
